Groupware encompasses a set of functions designed to help members of a group with tasks of interest to the group as a whole. Electronic mail, databases, shared document databases and electronic forums are the components of a groupware solution. Modern communications technology also enables several people to view the same image on their screen, no matter how far apart they are. An electronic forum, where everyone can see the same material related to a particular case, can be established in the field, so that the participants can process the case jointly and simultaneously . Groupware does more than provide economies of time and space: it also encourages group members to pool their knowledge and experience, resulting in more thorough information processing and better decision making, at a reasonable cost.
